A Letter from Dr. Judith Beck
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Happy New Year from Beck Institute! Let me begin the New Year by thanking our colleagues for all you have done and all you continue to do to advance mental health treatment and help individuals feel better and stay better. Whether you work in private practice or conduct research; and whether you are just beginning your career or have been practicing for decades, you likely chose to work in the field of mental health because you care about the well-being of people everywhere. Now, more than ever, the world needs people like you!
My father, Dr. Aaron T. Beck, and I founded Beck Institute in 1994, which makes 2024 our 30th year. I am so proud of everything we have achieved, and I know that if my dad were still around, he’d be immensely proud, too. Last year we trained over 7,015 health and mental health professionals, and awarded over $182,000 in scholarships and discounts to trainees. This year, we hope to do even more to increase access to our world-class training.
Here are some of the things we have planned for 2024:
- We will continue to grow our training presence in justice-related settings, addressing a large unmet need for mental health services that can help currently and formerly incarcerated individuals connect with resources, rejoin their communities, pursue their aspirations, and remain crime-free.
- We will address the youth mental health crisis by expanding our training offerings for professionals, paraprofessionals, and teachers who work with youth in a variety of settings. Brand new webinars on Trauma-Informed CBT for Youth and CBT Strategies for Good Parenting will be added to our offerings which include CBT for Suicide Prevention in Youth, CBT for Teachers, CBT for ADHD in Youth, and others.
- We will continue to train and support our colleagues in countries around the world, including Japan, Nigeria, Malaysia, Lebanon, and Turkey.
- We will partner with our colleagues who provide training and supervision to social workers to improve and enhance CBT training in social work programs around the country. Visit our booth at the 2024 American Board of Clinical Social Work Annual Conference in Philadelphia to learn more.
I am grateful for our dedicated team, expert faculty, and accomplished board of directors, who help us undertake this meaningful work. I am also thankful for the support of our generous donors who help us deliver on our non-profit mission and make CBT and CT-R more accessible to individuals around the world. It has been an honor to lead the Beck Institute for the past 30 years. I can’t wait to see what the next 30 years have in store.
Warmly,
Judith S. Beck, PhD
