Sofia Chernoff, PsyD, CBT Program Director

Beck Institute’s brand-new youth-focused CBT certification program reflects Beck Institute’s commitment to advancing evidence-based care for children and adolescents worldwide.

The youth mental health crisis is complex—and continuing to grow—as young people grapple with social media use, online bullying, family and community economic insecurity, gun violence, and other challenges. Clinicians are often asked to meet increasingly complex needs across a wide range of settings, from outpatient mental health clinics, schools, special education programs, and pediatric medical systems to juvenile justice settings. If you treat youth clients, please know that you are doing vital, compassionate work supporting the next generation.

Providing effective care to young clients requires specialized knowledge of developmental, cognitive, and emotional processes unique to children and adolescents. At Beck Institute, we’ve long recognized the importance of this specialized training. Today, I’m thrilled to introduce our youth-focused CBT certification program, a structured, evidence-based training pathway designed designed to help professionals build expertise in delivering high-quality CBT to youth.

Why Youth-Focused CBT Training Matters

The ability to deliver effective, developmentally appropriate CBT can change the course of a young person’s life. This program was developed to ensure that clinicians working with youth have the tools, confidence, and support they need to provide evidence-based treatment. Beck Institute certified youth-focused clinicians demonstrate both foundational knowledge and clinical proficiency in interventions that are empirically supported for children and adolescents. By achieving certification, clinicians not only strengthen their own practice—they help raise the standard of care for youth mental health worldwide.

Who Is Youth-Focused CBT Certification For?

Our youth-focused CBT certification program provides a flexible learning path for clinicians at all stages in their careers.

The program consists of two phases:

  • Phase one focuses on building a strong theoretical foundation in youth-focused CBT.
  • Phase two emphasizes the development of clinical skills through applied learning, supervision, and evaluation.

Clinicians may enroll in the program and begin taking courses regardless of their current role, degree, or experience level. Upon completion of their coursework, they are eligible to take a proctored examination assessing the CBT knowledge they have gained thus far. Passing this assessment earns a Certificate in Theoretical Foundations of CBT: Youth, a meaningful milestone for students, trainees, and early-career professionals.

Those who meet the eligibility criteria—including a terminal degree, independent licensure where required, and supervised clinical experience—can continue to phase two to earn the designation of Beck Institute CBT Certified Clinician: Youth (BICBT-CCY).

For clinicians with more than 10 years of experience providing CBT to youth, we also offer an optional knowledge-based bypass of the foundational training and supervision requirements.

Wherever you are in your career, there’s a place for you in our program. Our certification path was developed to support growth and uphold the standard of excellence that Beck Institute is known for.

Strengthening the Future of Youth Mental Health Care

Becoming a Beck Institute youth-certified clinician is a commitment to providing the highest standard of evidence-based care to the young people who need it most. It signals to clients, families, and colleagues that you are dedicated to clinical excellence, professional development, and personal growth.

If you work with children or adolescents—or if you hope to in the future—I invite you to explore this new program. Together, we can expand access to effective treatment, strengthen clinical practice across settings, and contribute to a better future for youth everywhere.
