Mental Health Month is celebrated in the US each May. This awareness campaign focuses on raising awareness of mental health issues and treatment, and invites organizations like Beck Institute, along with individuals, researchers, clinicians, lawmakers, and others, into discussion.
The theme for 2023, as established by fellow nonprofit Mental Health America, is “Look around, look within,” which encourages reflection on how social and physical determinants of health, such as economic circumstances, safety, and other external factors, impact an individual’s mental health.
We are excited to see this holistic approach to understanding mental health, as we teach clinicians to create a unique treatment plan for every client in our Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) trainings. A good CBT treatment plan is based on an ever-evolving cognitive conceptualization and carefully considers the client’s goals, values, presenting problems, symptoms, and demographics including culture, religion, language, sexual and gender identity and more.
This year, Beck Institute is participating in Mental Health Month by sharing helpful resources on our website and social media. We have created resources for professionals and students, individuals, the international community, and for those working in emergency response. From informational pamphlets that explain common challenges for individuals to client assessment tools for clinicians and researchers, we have gathered a tremendous amount of resources to help our global community.
We are happy to participate in Mental Health Month every year because we believe that increased awareness of mental health conditions and access to quality treatment has a ripple effect. As we help more individuals get better and stay better, we impact their families, friends, and greater communities. Together, we can make an exponential difference.
