BALA CYNWYD, PA – The Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy announced today that Pearson Clinical Assessments will provide a one-time $10,000 donation to Beck Institute in honor of Dr. Aaron T. Beck’s 100th birthday. Dr. Beck is the developer of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), a form of psychotherapy that has been found to be effective in treating a wide range of psychiatric disorders, psychological problems, and medical conditions with psychological components in over 2,000 clinical studies. In 1994, he co-founded the nonprofit Beck Institute (BI) with his daughter, Dr. Judith Beck, to provide state-of-the-art training in CBT to health and mental health professionals, paraprofessionals, and organizations worldwide. Dr. Beck celebrated his 100th birthday on July 18th.
Pearson’s gift will help Beck Institute fulfill its non-profit mission to improve lives worldwide through excellence in CBT. The gift will be held in the Beck Institute Scholarship Fund, a restricted fund with the purpose of providing financial assistance to individuals and organizations who might not otherwise be able to afford quality CBT training. Scholarships are awarded to individuals and organizations for Beck Institute workshops, webinars, and Beck Institute’s CBT Certification program.
“I can think of no better way to honor my father than to help fund CBT training,” said Beck Institute President, Dr. Judith S. Beck. “This gift allows Beck Institute to continue its important work providing excellent training in effective, evidence-based CBT to clinicians worldwide. Their patients will in turn benefit, meaning that countless individuals around the world will receive higher-quality care and have better outcomes as a result of Pearson’s generous gift.”
“Dr. Beck’s scales for assessing depression, anxiety, hopelessness, and suicide ideation are used by clinicians around the world to help diagnose and treat people. He is a true giant in the clinical mental health field. We are proud to be associated with Dr. Beck and are honored to contribute to this scholarship fund,” said Clay Richey, Vice President, Pearson Clinical Assessments.
