BALA CYNWYD, PA – Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy announced the new Beck Institute Center for Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R) on Saturday. Beck Institute President and co-founder, Dr. Judith S. Beck, delivered the announcement at the annual Beck Institute Summit, an international conference which presents cutting-edge Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) research and treatment.
The addition of the Center for CT-R to the established Beck Institute brings together two teams of expert clinicians, researchers, and educators, all dedicated to the work of Dr. Aaron T. Beck, co-founder of the Beck Institute and originator of cognitive therapy. Both CBT and CT-R developed out of cognitive therapy. CBT has been demonstrated in thousands of clinical trials to be effective in treating a wide range of mental health conditions. CT-R operationalizes recovery, resiliency, and empowerment to extend the reach of cognitive therapy to individuals given a diagnosis of schizophrenia or other serious mental health conditions. Under Beck Institute’s training programs, thousands of health and mental health professionals develop skills in CBT and CT-R each year.
“We predict that the Beck Center for CT-R will significantly impact the future of psychotherapy, and more importantly, improve the mental health of the many individuals suffering from serious mental health conditions” said Dr. Judith Beck. “The transformative work that this team is doing, from helping individuals who have been institutionalized for decades find greater independence to training teams of mental health professionals across the country and right here in Philadelphia, is inspirational. I believe that the Center will strengthen Beck Institute’s ability to conduct more research and training with the goal of helping more people get well and stay well. My father and I can think of no better home for CT-R than Beck Institute.”
Beck Institute, and the new Beck Institute Center for CT-R, will continue to provide psychotherapy to individuals, in addition to providing resources, certification, and training in CBT and CT-R for mental health specialists and organizations, in person and online, around the globe. Together, the teams will offer highly customized training for practitioners across a wide range of practices and settings, including healthcare systems, state and community mental health systems, school districts, hospitals and forensic settings, residential programs, and community-based teams.
