One of the key components of our mission is innovation. As the home of both Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R), we are constantly reading the latest research and working to refine these two fields in order to help more individuals get and stay better. This past year, we have been developing a new training format to meet the needs of our busy trainees: technique trainings in the context of a cognitive conceptualization.

Each new technique training provides a deep dive into one crucial aspect of CBT or CT-R treatment. They are affordable and accessible, and qualify for CE credits. We created these trainings in response to trainee requests for shorter trainings that still uphold the Beck Institute standard.

Like our signature on-demand courses, techniques are not taught in isolation. They are always based on the clinician’s understanding of the clients’ cognitions. These trainings feature members of our expert faculty, as well as roundtable discussions with other staff clinicians, and role plays with example clients. Each technique training focuses on one crucial aspect of treatment to provide depth and clarity on the subject matter. Quizzes and assignments keep learners engaged throughout these self-paced trainings.

I am happy to announce our first two technique trainings, which will be released in early winter:

  • Socratic Questioning in CBT: This comprehensive, self-paced, on-demand technique training will cover aspects of Socratic questioning through case examples, role played therapy sessions, and discussions with Beck Institute expert clinicians. It is designed to help trainees determine when it’s appropriate to ask Socratic questions, how to apply them in session, and what to do when questioning doesn’t go as planned.
  • Developing and Enriching Aspirations in CT-R: This interactive, on-demand technique training introduces aspirations as a foundational and essential element of CT-R. Through case examples, role plays, and discussions with Beck Institute expert clinicians, trainees will develop skills to discover the meaning behind an individual’s aspirations. These adaptable skills can be applied in a variety of settings and with diverse populations to help tailor CT-R to each person.

I hope you’ll join us for these trainings and let us know what you think!
