We’re excited to share that this September, Beck Institute will be hosting CBT for Complex Cases, our first in-person live training in over five years! Watch along as Dr. Judith Beck shares more about this exciting upcoming opportunity for professionals build their professional skills and confidence with CBT techniques that make a difference in clients’ lives.
Our CBT for Complex Cases hybrid workshop will be different from any other learning experience we’ve offered. This two-day workshop, taking place on September 11 and 12, will focus on difficult-to-treat clients, giving participants the opportunity to learn how expert clinicians think about complex cases and how to adapt treatment for them.
On Day 1, Dr. Judith Beck will present a specific complex case of a client who is highly resistant to engaging in treatment. In addition to conceptualizing the client, Dr. Beck will show a roleplayed session, interspersing each part with commentary. She will also discuss how to specify and conceptualize challenges that can be daunting even to experienced CBT therapists and she will discuss the importance of integrating techniques from other evidence-based treatments for clients with specific challenges. She will also review how to build strong therapeutic relationships with clients who bring their maladaptive beliefs and maladaptive coping strategies to the therapy session—and how to repair ruptures.
On Day 2, Drs. Allen Miller and Sofia Chernoff will each present a complex case from their own practices. They will engage in roleplays to illustrate how to identify clients’ values and aspirations and use them to motivate clients, and how to help clients get out of the “maladaptive mode” and into the “adaptive mode.” On both days of the workshop, Drs. Beck, Miller, and Chernoff will respond to audience questions and invite participants to present their own difficult cases for feedback.
This workshop is appropriate for all clinicians who have a basic understanding of CBT theory and need help applying and adapting treatment for their most challenging cases.
