BALA CYNWYD, PA – Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy (BI) has officially recognized clinicians who have met requirements to earn the title of Beck Institute CBT Certified Clinician (BICBT-CC). The designation recognizes mental health clinicians for their commitment to continued education in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), well beyond the coursework required for their clinical licenses.
In August of 2019, the organization launched its Certification program to help mental health professionals advance their skills in CBT through a comprehensive training and supervision program. Beck Institute President Dr. Judith S. Beck shared, “We are thrilled to offer Beck Institute CBT Certification to these exemplary clinicians, recognizing both their commitment to delivering excellent CBT and the dedication of our staff. Beck CBT Certification ensures that mental health professionals in the US and the international community practice CBT with fidelity to the cognitive model developed by our co-founder, Dr. Aaron T. Beck. I couldn’t be prouder of our program and of the clinicians who are helping their patients get better faster and lead fuller, more meaningful lives.”
The Certification program demonstrates an integral piece of Beck Institute’s mission by arming mental health professionals, regardless of geographic location, with the tools, knowledge, and firsthand experience needed to provide treatment according to the cognitive model. Evidence from decades of research suggests that CBT, as originally developed, is effective in treating anxiety, depression, chronic insomnia, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), among many other conditions. Certified practitioners will be able to empower patients with a wide range of presenting problems using practical techniques and interventions gained from in-depth trainings and one-on-one supervision from experts with varying specialties.
“As the need for excellence in mental health training and care is more apparent than ever, we are excited to be in a position to uphold a high standard in CBT,” said Lisa Pote, MSW, Beck Institute Executive Director. “As a nonprofit, our certification program allows us to continue delivering on our mission of improving lives worldwide through excellence and innovation in CBT training, treatment, and research. Our first round of BICBT-CCs demonstrates those values in practice.”
