CBT for Prolonged Grief
This training will be held as a live 90-minute webinar.
Sue Schonberg, PhD, will provide an overview of CBT for Prolonged Grief, describing the identification and treatment of Prolonged Grief and the application of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to its treatment. You will learn how to distinguish between Uncomplicated Bereavement, Prolonged Grief, and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Emotions typically observed during Prolonged Grief will be identified and the dysfunctional appraisals that can result from these emotions will be discussed. You will learn to recognize the types of maladaptive thoughts that can accompany these emotions and the resulting behaviors that are often associated with these maladaptive thoughts. Additionally, you will learn to identify and address impediments in coming to terms with loss by utilizing automatic thought records and behavioral experiments with your clients. Methods to enhance emotional regulation will be discussed. Additional considerations to dealing with loss due to COVID-19, loss of pets, loss of a child, loss to suicide and murder will be discussed. Case vignettes will be provided as well as audio clips from a client session.
This training is appropriate for mental health professionals and allied health practitioners dealing with clients impacted by Prolonged Grief. An understanding of basic principles used in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will be helpful.
Please note that the webinar will not be recorded.
