Brief CBT for Medical Settings

Led by expert Beck Institute faculty member Donna M. Sudak MD, this experiential workshop offers practical tools useful for planning and implementing treatment for patients with a variety of psychiatric conditions who are seen in a briefer setting or in settings where brief treatment is required. Methods are described and illustrated from the theories and strategies of CBT that may be employed in a briefer format. Examples of specific interventions that are detailed include enhancing adherence to medication, using targeted behavioral strategies for anxiety disorders, cognitive restructuring in brief sessions, and CBT for insomnia. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss how they could implement CBT in brief sessions in their own practices.

Participants will learn to conceptualize clients according to the cognitive model, use motivational techniques, develop treatment and action plans, integrate relaxation and mindfulness techniques, and schedule activities to manage depression and have a better quality of life.  This interactive workshop includes case discussions and experiential exercises.

The purpose of this program is to train health professionals to treat clients with CBT in briefer formats.
