Michael A. Tompkins, PhD, ABPP is a licensed psychologist and board certified in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology. He is co-director of the San Francisco Bay Area Center for Cognitive Therapy, Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California at Berkeley, and an adjunct faculty member of the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy.
Dr. Tompkins is the author or co-author of numerous clinical articles and book chapters on cognitive-behavior therapy as well as twelve books and three APA Psychotherapy Training Videos. He serves on the Advisory Board of Magination Press, the children’s press of the American Psychological Association, and on the editorial board of the Journal of Cognitive and Behavioral Practice. He is a recipient of numerous professional awards, including the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award for excellence in innovation, treatment, and research by the Mental Health Association of San Francisco.
He has an active clinical practice and specializes in cognitive-behavior therapy for anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders, and insomnia with adults, adolescents, and children. He has presented on cognitive-behavior therapy and related topics to national and international audiences.
