Abby Adler Mandel, PhD

Abby Adler Mandel, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in the application of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for mood and anxiety disorders and suicidal ideation and behavior. Dr. Mandel earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from The Ohio State University and completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at the Boston Consortium in Clinical Psychology within the VA Boston Healthcare System. This was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Aaron T. Beck Psychopathology Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania where she continued on as a Research Associate. At the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Mandel conducted clinical research focused on suicide prevention and served as a trainer and consultant for community therapists implementing CBT. Dr. Mandel is currently an Assistant Professor in Psychology at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where she teaches undergrad and grad-level courses, supervises clinical psychology graduate students, and conducts research broadly focused on understanding cognitive factors associated with depression and suicide. She has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and her research has been funded by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and National Institutes of Health. She is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the American Association of Suicidology.
