Taught by Norman Cotterell, PhD, this workshop will teach you how to adapt cognitive behavior therapy to the treatment of couples. You’ll learn how to conceptualize common relationship difficulties in the context of the cognitive model and how to navigate the complex interaction of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that transpire within romantic partnerships. Dr. Cotterell will describe how to analyze and challenge the dysfunctional thinking that can fuel couples’ anger and resentment and how to plan and implement treatment strategies that will help couples effectively resolve conflict and strengthen their relationships. You’ll learn how to create a relationship vision for a couple, how to identify signs of love and caring, and how to increase relationship satisfaction using a variety of interventions. Through experiential exercises, roleplays, and case examples, this workshop will teach you evidence-based strategies to help couples communicate effectively, solve problems, and find common ground.
